More about the house:
James S. Easley, Sr., one of Halifax County's wealthiest estate owners, is said to have
owned this Greek Revival home built by Dabney Cosby, Jr., circa 1840. The home features historic architecture, a fireplace fabled to have been a gift from the 1st millionaire in the U.S. and a rambling front porch. The main portion of the home features a centered entrance with latticed muntin bars in the sidelites and a transom and two brick chimneys on the gable ends. A two-story brick extension was added to one gable end and a one-story addition with a back porch is on the other gable end. A wide central hallway sweeps through the home where the primary staircase has turned balusters, curved handrail and a large turned newel post at the base. Evidence of hand carved elements original to the home are evident throughout.

The winding boxwood garden and the gracefully sprawling magnolia trees keep this 8 acre site delightfully green year round. A significant number of trees were planted in the mid 19th century possibly as part of the home's original landscape. It is situated on Mountain Road, one of the county's most scenic locations were the homes have park -like settings.
